Academics

SASTRA aims to become a model institution for higher learning thus creating high quality intellectuals through carefully designed academic programmes. Such programmes are offered in the most desirable way supported by adequate state-of-the-art infrastructure. The contents of the courseware for the various programmes, address key issues of national importance and all the programmes have an element of ‘value’ education embedded in them. The programmes also take into account the changing needs of the industries, aimed to produce graduates who form an integral part of a globally competitive workforce. With the right mix of conventional teaching-learning mechanisms along with adequate support from various ICT resources, the programmes offered at SASTRA ensure success, making SASTRA a truly integrated University engaged in teaching, training, research and consultancy. SASTRA also earnestly endeavours to be a part of the societal development involved in various social and community development initiatives.

SASTRA follows choice-based credit system, where students are free to choose their courses and faculty. Our Curriculum gets revamped from time to time through feedbacks from students, industry and government. Teaching at SASTRA is not just filling the students with information through a transmittive process. The students are transformed into active learners through the mechanics of learning. Students are encouraged to carry out mini-projects and participate in national level technical design competitions. Student groups are encouraged to make presentations, engage in role plays, conduct field studies and share experiences, and innovate on new experiments for laboratory work. SASTRA follows the credit system for evaluating students whose performance is measured by the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).

It is expected that all students complete two certificate courses within the period of study. The certificate courses offered by SASTRA are value-added and are offered to the students free of cost. In addition, certificate courses handled by experts from premier research institutes in India in key areas are also conducted. Besides this, students are encouraged to participate in various technical symposia, paper presentations and design contests as part of their co-curricular activities
