MESSAGE FROM VICE-CHANCELLOR

It gives me great pleasure to meet all of you once again through ITIHAS. The start of the academic year 2002-03 witnessed many events that added new colours to the university. The admissions this year for the various underĀgraduate programmes saw the entry of students from many states like" Bihar, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, etc. thus giving a national character to the university. The launch of the new undergraduate courses Biotechnology, Bioengineering and Mechatronics has met with success with the response being good. The new postgraduate courses were also received with great response drawing students from different parts. The satellite campus at Kumbakonam saw the launch of many Arts, Science & Engineering programmes thereby expanding the activities of Srinivasa Ramanujan Centre.

SASTRA paid host to many other events in its usual style making the university continuously vibrate with academic fervor. Visit of foreign dignitaries, success in university examinations, repeated success in inter-collegiate cultural competitions, etc. have brought SASTRA time and again in the limelight. I am extremely happy that many students worked hard and performed well in their examinations and went on to receive merit scholarships worth Rupees Five Lakhs. Dean's Lists were also released to honour the selected meritorious students

I wish all the readers a Happy Diwali.

Prof. R. SETHURAMAN
