It gives me great pleasure to speak to you through the columns of ITIHAS. The last quarter of the calendar year 2002 was packed with academic and extra-curricular activities in the campus, all serving to hold aloft the banner of SASTRA. Events like the visit of Russian dignitaries on the occasion of the UN Day Celebration, the Special Endowment Lecture by Dr. K. Venkatasubramanian, the visit of His Holiness Sri Jayendra Saraswati Swamigal to launch 'Sloka Mala', and His video conference with a Malaysian audience, the launch of Rain Water Harvesting Programme in the Satellite Campus at Kumbakonam, the signing of an MoU with Swiss German University, success of the cultural team of SASTRA in the South Zone Inter-University Youth Festival - UNIFEST 2002 and the conduct of cultural programmes to foster and promote talent among the higher secondary students in the district marked the spectacular progress the University is making in the academic world. The Convocation Address by Dr. Raj Reddy of Carnegie Mellon University U.S.A. proved to be a fitting finale to the activities of the year.
I wish all the readers a Happy and Prosperous New Year 2003 and wish all of you success in your future endeavours.
