College Rankings – SASTRA’ s Response

 SASTRA University’s deliberate silence over the publication of college ranking by various magazines is now broken due to concerns from various stakeholders who are well-wishers of SASTRA University. As a matter of policy, SASTRA University does not participate in any university ranking initiative undertaken by magazines through various marketing research (MR) companies. The reasons are many – faulty methodology, lack of consistency amongst the MR firms, undue weightage to academic fringe benefits than mainstream academic parameters, advertorials, etc. Despite this, some magazines have ranked SASTRA University though the University has not submitted any data. SASTRA University does not endorse & is not responsible for such arm-chair ranking popularly called perceptual ranking and cautions public to exercise maximum care before they take decisions. SASTRA University will continue its undiluted focus of being a research based University and not a  teaching shop with massive enrolment.  Our research and academic output is tellingly visible in the publication/patent/Ph.D. output and in the success of our students in corporate & academia, both in India and abroad. We let our performance do the talking and not marketing research firms. We thank the well-wishers of SASTRA for bringing this to our notice with a commitment that SASTRA will only further the cause of quality higher education & research.
